A Windsor resident has been charged in connection to a four-vehicle crash that claimed two lives and injured three people during Chatham’s RetroFest weekend.

According to the Chatham-Kent Police Service, a 27-year-old Windsor man was driving east on Queen’s Line on May 27 at around 7 p.m., when he collided head-on with a westbound pickup truck at Dillon Road. The man’s vehicle then struck an older-model Buick containing five occupants, which was directly behind the pickup.

A fourth vehicle that veered off the roadway to avoid the collision was indirectly involved in the crash.

The collision occurred during Chatham’s RetroFest classic car cruise, which had been making its way west on Queens Line.

On Tuesday, police announced that the investigation into the collision had been completed. The 27-year-old Windsor man has now been charged with two counts of careless driving causing death and three counts of careless driving causing bodily harm. He will answer the charges in court on September 7.
