Charing Cross Road Bridge Scheduled for Rehabilitation

As some construction projects in Chatham wrap up, another project is starting up in Charing Cross.

Starting on Tuesday, the Charing Cross Road Bridge at the 401 will be closed for a complete rehabilitation of the underpass.

The work is being carried out by the Ministry of Transportation, and will include reconstruction of the east lanes of the 401 from Mull Road to Victoria Road, and rehabilitation of the Taff Creek Bridge and Kent Bridge Road underpasses. Lighting and 10 structural culverts will also be upgraded.

Officials say a high tension cable barrier will also be installed on a portion of the highway, from 0.9 km east of Essex Road 42, easterly to Victoria Road.

A detour will be in place for north/south bound traffic on Charing Cross via Middle Line, Drury Line, and Communication Road to Park Ave.

The project is expected to be completed on October 1st.
