Charing Cross residents are signing petitions to keep a recently-installed traffic light.
South Kent Councillor Karen Herman says the light is at Charing Cross Road and Middle Line.
“The traffic’s light’s been there on a temporary basis from the MTO project on Highway 40 and the 401,” Herman explains. “The opportunity now is to see that this remains on a permanent basis because the community has spoken to me and my fellow South Kent Councillors.”
Herman says the intersection has been much safer with the light in place.
Thomas Kelly, Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, says his department has been considering several solutions.
“That’s a temporary light, and to get it to a standard light will require an investment,” Kelly says. “We all want to realign the road and add turn lanes as well. If you want to just focus on the light itself is one thing, but we’re looking a little bigger.”
The Engineering department will lay out a number of solutions, including the possibility of installing a roundabout, at next week’s council meeting.
