A Chatham-based construction company has been fined $85,000 after a worker was killed while cutting down a tree.
According to the Ontario Ministry of Labour, an employee of John Harris Concrete Ltd was clearing brush and felling trees around a drainage ditch on Gould Road in Dawn-Euphemia on October 26, 2022, and was fatally injured by a tree.
A ministry investigation found that while the worker had been trained to operate a chainsaw safely, they were not trained on tree felling.
The employer has pled guilty to failing to provide the necessary training under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
