Continuing a near-century-long tradition, Chatham’s June fair kicks off on Thursday with a new name.
The aptly titled “Chatham Fair” runs from June 8-11 at Memorial Arena featuring rides, vendors, games, entertainment and food.
Officials with Summit Shows Canada stepped up to host the event earlier this year after the Chatham Kinsmen announced they were unable to host the annual Kinsmen Fair, due to issues with their carnival ride provider.
The Kinsmen Fair, formally known as the Jaycee Fair, has been a summer tradition in Chatham for 75 years.
“We have stepped up to help keep the history alive and to give the community something to do,” organizers said on the fair’s website.
Included during this year’s event is a hoedown dance on Thursday, Family Day on Saturday with kids’ entertainment planned for the entire day, and a karaoke contest on Sunday.
Organizers with Summit Shows Canada previously told CKXS News that they are hopeful the Kinsmen will be able to revive their own festival next summer.
