High praise for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent when it comes to last year’s budget.

Not necessarily how taxpayers money is being spent, but rather the way the fiscal outline was presented.

The municipality has been named the winner of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association.

Officials say the award recognizes Chatham-Kent’s Budget & Performance Services division and their commitment to upholding the highest standards of governmental budgeting.

“Our team put forward tremendous effort to enhance our budget book documents, and I am proud to see that recognized through GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award,” said Steve Brown, Director of Budget & Performance Services. “We sit amongst a strong group of governments who have also achieved this goal and are committed to achieving effective open and transparent government for our taxpayers.”

The award guidelines evaluate the effectiveness of an entity’s budget in serving various essential functions and shows an ongoing commitment to transparent and effective budgeting practices.
