Another Chatham-Kent resident has lost their life to COVID-19. Public Health officials say the latest victim is a man in his 70s.

That brings to 53 the number of local deaths caused by the virus since the pandemic began.

Public Health is reporting 75 new cases since the last update on Wednesday, with a seven-day average of 33 new cases per day.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has announced that an outbreak has been declared in the Medicine B Unit at the hospital’s Chatham site. The outbreak is linked to three COVID cases.

There are two other active outbreaks in the municipality, one with two linked cases at a group home, and Village on the Ridge in Ridgetown, with a total of 43 cases since the outbreak was declared on January 17th.

There are now 20 patients with the virus at CKHA, 11 of whom are being treated primarily for COVID-19. There are four COVID patients in ICU, however, only one of those is being treated for COVID.
