Chatham-Kent will be getting a new Integrity Commissioner.
At Monday night’s council meeting, council approved Suzanne Craig from SC Consulting to be appointed as the Integrity Commissioner/Closed Meeting Investigator for a two-year period, plus two one- year extensions, if desired by both parties.
Responsibilities of the Integrity Commissioner include investigating complaints and alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct for Members of Council. They also review the Code of Conduct and make recommendations, serve as an advisor to individual Members of Council in relation to the Code of Conduct and any procedures, rules and policies of the municipality governing ethical behaviour, and act as a proactive educator for Council, the Civic Administration and the public.
There were eight submissions for a request-for-proposal for the position. Three were interviewed and two moved on to the costing phase, with SC Consulting receiving the highest points once the costing was applied to the matrix.
Mary Ellen Bench was appointed as Chatham-Kent’s Integrity Commissioner in 2019 and her term is up at the end of this month.
