In a bid to continue to help restaurants struggling with provincial Covid-19 restrictions, Chatham-Kent council approved extending a temporary by-law to permit outdoor patios on private property until the end of the year.
Council extended the temporary by-law for another 12 months at their Monday council meeting.
When Covid-19 first came on the scene in 2020, Chatham-Kent council allowed for outdoor patios as a temporary measure to allow the public to safely dine out, while meeting social distancing requirements and other public health guidelines. Temporary will now be almost three years.
Councillor Carmen McGregor raised the possibility of making the temporary bylaw a permanent bylaw. Last year Chatham-Kent council amended the bylaw to allow restaurant owners to occupy parts of their parking areas.
