Chatham-Kent is beginning to seek sponsorships for the new Community Hub library and museum.
Back in November, the Chatham-Kent Public Library Board passed a Naming Rights and Sponsorships Policy which manages naming rights and sponsorships for Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) branches, rooms, spaces, and collections.
Going forward, the Library Board will oversee approving interior naming while council will be in charge of approving names of branches and major exterior assets.
In a presentation to council, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Dave Taylor listed the sponsorship and naming opportunities available at both the museum and library including being the premiere sponsor and sponsoring individual components and exhibits.
Interested parties are encouraged to visit the Chatham-Kent Building and Growth page with staff reaching out to potential sponsors. Any proposed sponsorship agreements will return to the appropriate approval body, including council for major naming rights and museum-related sponsorships.
Council also approved an annual donation from the Myers Family Foundation of at least $250,000 per year over the next five years, representing a minimum commitment of $1.25 million. The only condition attached to the donation is that the funds be used for the library and/or museum at the Community Hub.
Council voted 17 to 1 in favour of the sponsorship plan and Myers donation, with only councillor Allyson Storey voting against.
