Another Chatham-Kent resident has lost their life to COVID-19.

Medical Officer Dr. David Colby says an unvaccinated woman in her 70s succumbed to the virus.

There have now been 34 deaths caused by COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent since the pandemic began.

29 COVID patients are being treated at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, 5 of whom are in intensive care and three on ventilators.

10 of those 29 patients have not been vaccinated.

160 staff at the hospital are currently affected by the virus, 85 off work and 75 at work but self-isolating.

Public Health is reporting 57 new cases today, noting that case numbers are an under-representation due to a reduction in testing.

There are now 11 active outbreaks, seven involving long term care or retirement homes, three congregate living settings, and the dialysis unit at the Health Alliance.
