Chatham-Kent’s unemployment rate hits 17-year low

Chatham-Kent’s unemployment rate has hit a 17 year low.

Officials say the jobless rate hit 5.2% in October, the lowest it’s been since the municipality began tracking.

That’s also below the provincial and federal unemployment rate, which sit at 5.9% and 6.3% respectively.

In all, there were 50,300 people working in Chatham-Kent in October, 600 more than the year previous.

It’s the seventh straight month of declines since the jobless rate peaked at 7.1% last March.
