The Province’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into an incident over the weekend that left a Chatham man with severe burns.
Chatham-Kent Police were called just after 1:30 Saturday morning about a man in distress.
Officers went to a home on St Clair Street and McNaughton Ave West, and authorities say a short time later, the man suffered serious burns to a significant portion of his body.
The 43-year-old was taken to hospital in Chatham before being airlifted to a trauma unit Toronto.
The Special Investigations Unit is called in whenever police are involved in situations that include a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU has designated two subject officers and two witness officers as part of the investigation.
