Chatham Man Facing Weapon Charges

A Chatham man under a lifetime weapons ban is facing charges for breaching that ban.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Park Street and William Street shortly before midnight on January 7.

During an investigation, the officers discovered that one of the vehicle’s occupants had a BB gun and a knife. The occupant was also prohibited from possessing any firearms, crossbows, restricted weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances for life.

As a result, a 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and is now charged with two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
