A Chatham eye doctor is facing a four month suspension in connection to allegations of professional misconduct.
During a videoconference yesterday, the Discipline Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons heard allegations of Dr. Anjema’s professional misconduct related to his ophthalmology practice, including concerns about aspects of his clinical care, patient communication, as well as clinical documentation and billing practices.
Dr. Anjema admitted certain facts and pleaded no contest to others.
“I’ve always tried to be the best doctor I can be no matter what,” Dr. Anjema says in an online statement. “I understand the important work of the College in striving to protect the public and to maintain the integrity of the medical profession. I’m sorry to say that they have found that I did not always meet College standards during the period they studied through 2011-2016. So, I’m being disciplined accordingly. I accept what has happened and I am accountable for the outcome.”
The committee ruled Dr. Anjema’s certificate of registration be suspended for four months starting on July 1st. He was also ordered to pay costs to the college totalling $10,370.
