A vigil of solidarity in the wake of Sunday’s terrorist attack at a Quebec City mosque will be held outside the Civic Centre in Chatham on Wednesday evening, starting at 7pm.

Hassan Elhkodr of the Chatham-Kent Muslim Association says all are welcome to attend the event to decry the use of violence and show support for victims of the shooting which claimed six lives.

Flags at municipal buildings have been lowered to half-mast and a book of condolences for residents to sign will be at the Civic Centre during business hours as well as during the vigil.

Condolences may also be left at all municipal service centres through February 10, 2017.

The Community of Christ Church, 174 Faubert Drive in Chatham will also hold a vigil Friday February 3, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

For more information on Wednesday night’s vigil, contact Mr. Elhkodr at 519-350-0038.

Mayor Randy Hope issued a statement earlier this week.

“We extend our condolences to the victims of the Quebec City mosque shooting. The residents of Chatham-Kent stand with all Canadians in deploring the use of violence.”
