Residents in Chatham are being asked to conserve water this week as the municipality repairs a major water transmission line.
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission said residential water customers should reduce or postpone activities that use significant amounts of water and minimize non-essential water use until Saturday.
Activities that should be avoided if possible include watering lawns and gardens; washing vehicles, driveways or outdoor surfaces; and filling swimming pools and hot tubs.
“The conservation request is a precautionary measure to help maintain adequate water supplies while the repair is completed,” Chatham-Kent officials said in a news release.
Residents can continue to use water for normal household needs, such as cooking, bathing and other essential purposes. Chatham’s drinking water remains safe to consume, and the Chatham Water Treatment Plant continues to operate normally.
Charing Cross Road will be closed to traffic from Middle Line to 15th Line, and 15th Line to Talbot Trail as work is completed on the water transmission line.
