An elementary school in Chatham has been selected as one of only 30 schools across Canada to receive grant funding to help further inspire reading among students.
King George VI Public School will receive $20,000 over three years through the Indigo Love of Reading Literacy Fund Grant, which will go towards enhancing the school’s library collection.
“This generous funding will be a game-changer for our school library, allowing us to acquire a diverse collection of new books and resources that will undoubtedly ignite a passion for reading in our students,” said Principal Danielle Maryschak in a news release. “We believe that a strong library is the heart of a thriving school, and this grant will empower us to provide our students with the tools and inspiration they need to become lifelong learners and readers.”
Of the 30 schools in Canada, King George is also one of just 11 schools in Ontario to receive the grant.
The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation has committed over $36 million to more than 3,600 schools since 2004, supporting more than one million students in high-needs communities across Canada.
