Volunteer Wanda Bell says the Hope Haven men’s shelter is almost ready to open.

“We have over 60 people that are volunteering there, 40 that are trained for supervision for overnight, the only thing is that we’re held back right now because of fire codes.

Bell says the shelter needs about $30,000 to bring the Wellington street property up to code.

The organization, formerly known as New Beginnings House, has been working as an outreach program for the last two years.

They’re accepting donations online or in person at 183 Wellington St West in Chatham.
