A young child has died after being struck by a train in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said emergency crews responded to train tracks near Keil Drive at around 1:10 a.m. on Saturday following the collision between the train and the young male pedestrian.
The child suffered critical injuries and, despite life-saving efforts, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rail traffic in the area was temporarily halted as a precaution, but it has since resumed.
Police are not releasing the identity of the child out of respect for the family’s privacy. Support services have also been made available to the family and first responders through Victim Services and peer programs.
