Child Suffers Minor Injuries In Unprovoked Assault

An arrest has been made after a child was assaulted with a stick in an unprovoked attack in Wallaceburg.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a girl and one of her parents were walking east on James Street on Saturday at around 10:15 p.m. when a woman who was unknown to them picked up a stick and threw it at the child.

The stick struck the victim’s side, causing minor injuries.

Based on a description of the suspect, a 32-year-old Wallaceburg woman was located nearby and arrested. She is now charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

The accused has since been released from custody with a future court date.
