A former Chatham man has written the story of one of the most important teams to ever represent the area.

Brock Greenhalgh grew up here and is now a teacher in Kitchener.  He recently wrote and self published Hard Road To Victory: The Chatham All-Stars Story.

It’s a book aimed at children detailing the exploits of the 1934 Chatham Coloured All-Stars, a team of all black ball players formed a couple of years earlier in Stirling Park.

The team captured the 34 Ontario Baseball Association title despite long odds and many road blocks. They faced discrimination, racial taunts, and threats. And they did it long before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

The book is available On Amazon for 20 dollars and all proceeds are going to the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society.
