2016 Salvation Army luncheon. This year’s event was once again limited to take-out due to COVID precautions.

Thousands of dollars have been raised to support those in need in Wallaceburg through the annual Childs Family luncheon at the Black Goose.

The 47th annual event brought $13,230, the most money raised since the fundraiser was held at the Oaks Inn years ago.

“The town always supports this very well, and the last two years despite how hard times are, Wallaceburg has stepped up its game,” Organizer Mark Childs says.

As with 2020, this year’s luncheon was take-out only, rather than a sit down meal.

Three-quarters of the money raised will go to the Wallaceburg branch of the Salvation Army for Christmas baskets. The remaining funds will go to the Pantry, a partnership between Knox Presbyterian Church and the First Baptist Church.

Since its inception, the fundraising luncheon has raised roughly $354,000 to help those less fortunate in Wallaceburg.
