An annual tradition in Wallaceburg is hoping to fill bellies and kettles.
The 50th annual Childs Family Luncheon and Dinner is set to take place at the Black Goose Grill on Monday, December 9th. The by-donation meal will be served from 11am to 6pm, dine in or take out.
75% of funds raised will support the Wallaceburg Salvation Army with the remaining 25% going to the Wallaceburg Pantry.
Last year’s meal brought in just over $16,000. Since its inception, the luncheon has raised a total of $384,207 to support those in need in the community.
Officials with the Salvation Army Chatham-Kent say the support is greatly appreciated as donations are down this year, in part because of the ongoing strike by Canada Post workers. Salvation Army officials are encouraging residents to drop off donations in person at locations in Wallaceburg, Chatham, or Ridgetown, or at a Red Kettle.
The organization is hoping to raise $550,000 by December 24, but are down more than $34,000 compared to last year.
