Christmas in Muskoka is back for its 8th year.
Held at the Armory in Chatham Starting December 4th from the 9th the event is in support of a summer event for the Saint Clair Catholic District School Board students.
Organizer Shawn Moynihan says there are more than 30 trees up for bid.
“Each tree is likely worth a thousand dollars. The police association does a Star Wars tree, all the principals come together and do a tree and it comes with a flat screen television. I’ve heard from schools that there’s a super heroes tree, and one of the trees from schools in Wallaceburg is just going to have hundreds of dollars of gift certificates on it,” explains Moynihan.
Next Tuesday the event opens with a senior’s event and a children’s treatment center event in the evening.
Moynihan says the Friday night event is the must see.
“It’s called the Tepperman’s Community Night. We’re open from 6-9 pm. Admission is free with a canned good – we participate with Outreach for Hunger. You can tour the trees, buy some ballots, there will be crafts for the kids, face painting by Teksavvy, and then on Saturday morning, we have the McDonald’s Family breakfast from 9-10:30am,” says Moynihan.
Over the last eight years the event has raised more than $500,000 in proceeds go to grade seven students in the St. Clair Catholic District School Board to help cover the cost of a May trip to the Muskokas.
