The local police board is recognizing the actions of a Chatham-Kent cop who saved the life of a newborn baby.
According to the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board, emergency crews responded to a Chatham home on September 23, 2025, after a mother called 911 to report that her three-week-old son had become unresponsive while she was feeding him.
Sergeant Fraser Leontowicz was first at the scene and was met outside by the mother holding her son, who had turned pale with blue lips.
The officer jumped into action to provide CPR and rescue breaths on the infant, which were successful in helping the child regain consciousness.
Paramedics arrived and took over care of the child, and took him to the emergency department at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. The infant’s vital signs continued to improve, and he has since made a full recovery.
The police services board will present Sergeant Leontowicz with a board citation on January 14 in recognition of his life-saving actions.
