Chatham-Kent Fire Services has a roadmap of sorts for the next decade.

Municipal council adopted the 2024 Fire Master Plan report as information at their council meeting held on Monday night, and directed Fire Chief Chris Case to use the plan as a strategic direction to support the delivery of fire protection services.

The fire protection plan was created by Dillon Consulting and was presented to council by Dillon’s Suzanne Charbonneau-Dent. Council unanimously adopted the plan.

The fire master plan had several recommendations, some of which will require a financial investment from Chatham-Kent. Among those recommendations include revising the current organizational structure of the fire service as part of implementing a fully integrated composite fire service operating model.

The report also suggests creating new staff positions and implementing new training programs and initiatives, the possibility of having a dispatch and call-taking agreement with Chatham-Kent Police Service, and adding a potential third fire station in Chatham.

Specific requests from the report, particularly those that require additional funding, will have to come back to council for approval as they arise.
