Chatham-Kent Council is looking at the cost of youth sports at its meeting tonight.
With minor sports leagues starting to re-launch, Chatham-Kent council will discuss waiving their sport field minor fee of $10.65 per participant for this year and next.
Youth sports need a boost, as many leagues and families have been hurt financially by the pandemic.
The municipality estimates waiving the fee will cost them approximately $33,000 annually, for a total cost of $66,000.
If Chatham-Kent decides to waive the fees, they will apply for provincial funding this year and cover next year’s loss with money from supplementary funding.
