CK Council Votes Against Further “Unwilling Host” Discussions

There will be no further discussions at the Civic Centre about declaring Chatham-Kent an unwilling host for future wind farms.

Ward 6 councillor Amy Finn brought back a motion to join the “no host” list after council rejected two wind turbine proposals at the October 6 meeting.

It’s a similar discussion to one held in council chambers in 2024, when members voted in favour of keeping their options open for future wind projects that could potentially suit Chatham-Kent, and agreeing to judge any future requests on a case-by-case approach.

According to municipal procedure, a motion to reconsider was required because the issue had already been voted on earlier in this council term. A two-thirds majority (12 votes) was needed for the motion to move forward.

Council voted 11 to 6, with councillors Marjorie Crew, Brock McGregor, Melissa Harrigan, Aaron Hall, Trevor Thompson, and Mayor Darrin Canniff voting against reopening the discussion.
