A pair of Chatham-Kent Councillors have thrown their hats in the ring for the chance to become the municipality’s next mayor.
Lauren Anderson and Michael Bondy both filed nomination papers on Friday, first day of Chatham-Kent’s election campaign.
Anderson is in her first term, representing Ward One West Kent. She released a statement on social media, saying the campaign will be about strong leadership, real conversations, and building something together.
“Over the years, I’ve heard the same thing from people in our community. We know that Chatham-Kent has potential, but we’re not always seeing it realized, and people are ready for something different, Anderson said. “I’m running for mayor because I believe that leadership should be accountable, present, and connected to the community.”
Bondy was first elected to council in 2010, and is in the midst of his fourth term. He has been vocal in his opposition to projects like the Chatham-Kent Community Hub, and says he wants to shift the municipality’s priorities back to the basics of roads and infrastructure.
“Too much staff time and tax revenue has been spent on initiatives that have no positive impact on the lives of our taxpayers,” Bondy said in a news release. “I don’t just want to help the taxpayers’ wallets; I want to improve the quality of life for the silent majority that has put its trust in Council to spend wisely and prudently.”
Bondy said as mayor, he would explore a reorganization of municipal departments, the establishment of community councils, and look into a review and reprioritization of municipal spending.

The nominating period runs through August 21 with Chatham-Kent residents heading to the polls on October 26.
