A delegation from Chatham-Kent is taking part in an annual conference that aims to improve road infrastructure and transportation across the province.

The delegation, which includes municipal staff and Councillor Alysson Storey, is currently in Toronto for The Good Roads Conference. The four-day event runs from April 21-24 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and boasts more than 2,000 attendees including mayors, councillors, and ministry staff.

CK Mayor Darrin Canniff said the conference provides municipal delegate with the opportunity to learn about potential funding opportunities and best practices for maintaining road infrastructure in their respective communities.

Canniff added that the annual event also allows municipal delegates to meet with provincial representatives to discuss various projects.

“[We are] talking about various things [like] funding the 401. We’re looking at the expansion of [the highway] from two to three lanes. We want to understand the timing of that. That certainly impacts us,” said Canniff.

The Good Roads Conference is one of the largest and historic municipal conferences in Canada.
