Chatham-Kent’s municipal election is still over three months away, but some campaign signs have already started popping up.
Judy Smith, Director of Municipal Governance Clerk, says there are some rules and regulations around election signs, but only when it comes to municipal property.
“Chatham-Kent has an election sign bylaw, and it’s respecting election campaign signs on boulevards and other municipal property,” Smith says. “Election signs are not able to go up on municipal property until 60 days prior to the election, which is August 26, 2022. If election signs go up on private property, this is acceptable.”
There are resources on the municipality’s website, both as information for new candidates or as a refresher for those who’ve held a seat in council chambers in the past.
“We’ll be having an information session for all candidates moving forward just to understand more of the rules with regard to campaigning, financial information, upcoming dates and so on.”
All campaign information is also available online at ckelection.ca.
The deadline to submit nomination papers for Chatham-Kent’s municipal election is August 19th.
Local residents head to the polls to vote for mayor, council members, and school board trustees on October 24th.
