The municipality’s legal team will be spending the next few days preparing a case to have full involvement in an environmental review tribunal into the proposed North Kent Wind 1 project in the former Chatham Township.
Chief Legal Officer, John Norton, says the municipality’s main job is to look out for the best interests of its residents.
“Council has instructed me to come here and make our voice heard with respect to ensuring that water wells are protected,” Norton says. “I think it’s really important that the tribunal give some deference to the fact that some of our citizens seem to be having problems with their water wells, so hopefully that can be address with the construction of the new project.”
Norton will spend the next five days going over documents from the other parties involved, a well as compiling a list of witnesses to call during the hearing.
A decision on what role the municipality will be able to play will be decided on Monday.
The hearing will begin October 5th.
