Chatham-Kent has fallen off the list Canada’s top growth cities, according to a major rental company.

The annual U-Haul Growth Index has been released, analyzing data for over 2.5 million one-way customer transactions over the past year.

CK ranked 10th in the country in 2024, accounting for 55% of all one-way traffic in and out of the market, maintained a top 13 finish or better in each survey since 2021, and even placed first in all of Canada in the 2022 study. However, the municipality was not included in the top 25 Canadian growth cities in 2025.

Calgary maintained its first place ranking this year, followed by Barrie, Montreal, Victoria, and Edmonton to round out the top five. St Thomas earned an 11th place ranking this year, with Sarnia making 18th on the list.

Officials say that while rankings may not correlate directly to population or economic growth, the U-Haul Growth Index is an effective gauge of how well provinces and cities are attracting and maintaining residents.
