
Chatham-Kent firefighters have kept busy over the last year, responding to thousands of calls across the municipality.
According to Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue (CKFR), local firefighters responded to 3,545 calls for service in 2025 compared to 3,212 calls in 2024. This included 177 fires, 449 collisions, 508 automatic alarms, and 11 water rescues.
The biggest increase in fire department calls was for medical responses, increasing to 654 in 2025 from 497 in 2024.
In addition, CKFR officials worked throughout 2025 to strengthen their approach to fire safety and risk reduction by completing 1,273 inspections. Alarm installation initiatives also led to 492 smoke alarms and 414 carbon monoxide alarms being installed throughout the year.
Fire officials are extending their appreciation to EMS, the Chatham-Kent Police Service, the OPP, and various municipal departments for their continued collaboration, which plays an essential role in enhancing community safety.
