Chatham-Kent officials are bending the ear of provincial politicians this week to help address some of the community’s most pressing challenges.
A delegation from the municipality is attending the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa this week to meet with Ontario ministers to advance local priorities and seek investment.
The delegation includes Mayor Darrin Canniff, councillors Lauren Anderson, Melissa Harrigan, Brock McGregor, Carmen McGregor, Morena McDonald, and Alysson Storey, along with municipal staff.
The municipality said it will be seeking greater provincial investment in supportive housing, including the operating funding needed to provide the staffing, programming and services that help people successfully transition from homelessness to stable housing.
The Municipality is also advocating for stronger provincial action to protect the rental housing supply by reducing inappropriate renovictions and improving tenant protections.
Other key areas of advocacy include funding for stormwater management and critical infrastructure.
The annual AMO conference brings together thousands of representatives from cities, towns and rural communities from across Ontario. The event runs from August 16 to 19.
