Local residents could soon be able to call a simple three-digit number to access municipal services.
Plans are moving forward to set up 3-1-1 as a way to reach the Civic Centre, rather than dialing the full 10-digit regular number.
Officials say the cost to streamline phone services will be minimal, given the current technology.
Other communities like London and Windsor already utilize the service.
The municipality will also be reaching out to connect with surrounding communities, including Walpole Island and Moraviantown, as well as Elgin, Middlesex, Lambton and Essex Counties.
It’s expected to take at least a year to get things up and running.
