CK Honouring Humboldt Tragedy

Municipal flags throughout Chatham-Kent are being lowered and a book of condolence prepared in memory of the victims of the Humboldt Broncos Junior hockey team bus crash.

15 people were killed when the bus collided with a transport on Friday.

Local officials say pages will be available at municipal service centres across Chatham-Kent this week, and a book will be compiled and forward on to Humboldt.

“You don’t have to have been a hockey player to identify with those who were on the bus,” Mayor Randy Hope says. “The pain of losing young people in such a tragic and cruel manner is something every parent or community member can relate to.”

Municipal staff will be holding a moment of silence during tonight’s council meeting.

Mayor Randy Hope is also joining a movement encouraging residents to wear a sports jersey on Thursday to honour the victims.
