Chatham-Kent’s Chief Administrative officer Don Shropshire, was busy last week attending the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meetings in Toronto.

He says it is a great opportunity to take concerns to senior government officials and cabinet ministers.

So what was it like dealing with the new government?

“The government being less than three months old, the standing message is they were hearing the concerns, they were taking it under advisement, but they were reluctant to make any solid commitments on any of the issues unless it was part of their election platform,” Shropshire says.

He says the major concerns he carried with him include shoreline erosion along Lake Erie, keeping up with plans to expand high speed fiber internet, and the arbitration system when it comes to dealing with municipal labour issues, particularly in regards to emergency services workers.
