A newly formed organization is now offering workshops, school programs, and summer camps to children and youth in Chatham-Kent.

BGC Canada (formally known as Boys and Girls Club) welcomed its Chatham-Kent chapter to the organization on May 31.

Officials with the local group said BGC Chatham-Kent aims to help youth understand and overcome barriers through community-based services, life-changing programs, and positive relationships with peers and caring adults.

“This new addition to Chatham-Kent will allow youth an opportunity to engage in safe activities that are designed to support their ongoing development; whether it be through recreation, educational learning opportunities or supporting their mental health,” said Board Chair Sarah Burk in a news release.

BGC Chatham-Kent currently offers a lower-cost summer camp option for youth and an in-school program that teaches the importance of collaboration, respecting others, and being healthy and active. Additional programs are also being developed.

The formation of the Chatham-Kent chapter was made possible through the hard work of volunteers, as well as support from the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation, South Kent Wind Community Fund, Peach Physio, Chatham Honda, and Riverview Gaming Centres.
