Municipal officials are looking for additional public feedback on the development of an organic waste disposal program in Chatham-Kent.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has launched an online survey to garner input on a recently completed study that looks at the feasibility of implementing an Organic Waste Diversion Program (Green Bin Program) in the municipality.

An online forum was also launched back in March for local residents to provide comments on the proposed program, which will aim to divert 50 per cent of organic waste from landfills.

According to the municipality, organic waste such as food waste, oil, grease, coffee grounds, non-recyclable paper makes up around 30 per cent of residential garbage.

The feasibility study also examines the options for non-curbside food waste diversion and an enhancement to the Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Program.

The online survey is now open to the public on the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website until July 15.

Recommendations from the study will be presented to council for review and approval in early 2025.
