A major upgrade to Chatham-Kent’s 911 service has been launched, improving how residents connect with emergency services when every second counts.
The municipality is now equipped with Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1), a new emergency communication system with the most modern and reliable network available.
“NG9-1-1 will make sure that when someone calls for help, our first responders receive the most accurate and up-to-date information possible so we can get there faster,” said CK Police Chief Kirk Earley in a news release. “This technology is built around the needs of the people we serve.”
NG9-1-1 allows emergency responders to receive real-time digital information from callers, including more precise caller location and eventually text messaging, images, and video. This will ensure better coordination between first responders and faster response times through better data sharing.
The transition to NG9-1-1 in Chatham-Kent was supported through nearly $4 million in investments from the Ontario government.
