The municipality has launched a week-long event aimed at empowering employers and job seekers within Chatham-Kent.
Organized by CKJobs, Workforce Week officially kicked off on Monday, with several in-person and virtual events planned for the next seven days. Each event will aim to provide resources to residents to help them find jobs, apprenticeships, or start a new career. There will also be seminars for local businesses on talent attraction and retention support.
“We realized when we were first putting together this event that we’re just one of a series of [job-related] events that are always occurring. So we were like, let’s package it together, create a bit of noise and try to put something together that’s going to help job seekers and businesses connect,” said Matt Keech, CK’s program manager for Employment and Social Services.
The week-long event concludes on March 5 with the Workforce Week Job Fair at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with more than 75 employers taking part.
Keech said attendees will be able to connect with company representatives, ask questions, and learn more about current job openings.
“The job fair itself on March 5 is really the marquee event. We’re anticipating around 1,000 job seekers will come through. Whether it’s a student, a volunteer or a job seeker, there’s going to be something for everyone,” he said.
