For the first time in several years, Chatham-Kent residents are being asked to cut back on watering their lawns.
The Public Utilities Commission has placed restrictions on all customers, both residential and commercial, on the municipal water supply.
Customers with odd numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on odd numbered days, while customers with even numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even numbered days.
With the extended hot dry weather that this region has been experiencing, lawn watering has placed extra demands on all of our Water Treatment Plants” said General Manager Tim Sunderland.
Sunderland say further restrictions could be put in place should the hot, dry weather drag on.
“So when you water your lawns that’s just water that’s going to ground, it’s non-essential water use and that’s all we’re asking people to do is restrict their non-essential water use.” Sunderland says.
“If they have a garden, their flowers and vegetable garden, if they could hand-water those rather than put a sprinkler on them, that would be very beneficial.”
