Municipal council is giving local businesses a little more time to deal with outstanding tax issues.

Keeping in mind that many are having a hard time financially due to COVID-19 restrictions, Chatham-Kent council voted at their council meeting last night to waive late payment charges on taxes for taxpayers through July 31, 2021.

While it would not eliminate payments, it would provide some relief to those who are struggling financially.

In a report to council, it’s estimated that by waiving late fees to all tax classes for the next four months it will result in a $200,000 loss to the municipality.
