Chatham-Kent council is set to consider extending the contract for the Community Grants Coordinator at Monday night’s meeting.

The coordinator plays a vital administrative role in managing the Councillor Ward Funding Program. Since 2022, the program has supported 65 recreational and cultural projects across the municipality, aiming to enhance community assets and programs.

According to the motion going before council, the cost to extend the contract through 2026 and 2027 is approximately $213,731. This cost will be split evenly between two municipal reserves, the Hydro One and Together CK Reserves, resulting in no impact on the base municipal budget.

The Councillor Ward Funding Program provides annual funding for recreational and cultural capital projects that address community needs. Each Councillor receives $25,000 annually, while the Mayor receives $125,000 to support initiatives across Chatham-Kent.

On April 7, 2025, Council approved a motion from Councillor Anthony Ceccacci directing administration to develop a more strategic and equitable plan for distributing Councillor Ward Funding throughout the community. The new plan will align funding with current and upcoming arts, culture, and recreation master plans.

This report is expected to be presented to Council this fall ahead of the 2026 budget decisions. Any changes recommended will take effect after the current council term ends, ensuring ongoing projects remain unaffected.
