A local man has been arrested in connection to an armed robbery in Sarnia.
The investigation began April 13, 2025 when officers with the Sarnia Police Service were called to a robbery in progress at a convenience store on Exmouth Street.
Authorities say a man went into the store and gathered roughly $37 worth of items, and placed them on the counter. However, while the cashier was scanning the items, the accused allegedly unzipped cross-body bag and pulled out a firearm. Police say the man demanded the clerk place the items in a brown paper bag then fled the scene.
A search came up empty handed, but investigators were later able to identify the suspect as a 21-year-old from Chatham-Kent.
A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest, and this past Monday, the accused was found and arrested.
He is now facing several charges, including robbery, using a firearm in commission of an offence, failing to comply with a release order, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
