In a bit of pandemic housekeeping, Chatham-Kent’s mask bylaw is being repealed…but that doesn’t mean you can go barefaced indoors quite yet.

Council members voted 13-5 to remove their mask mandate at their virtual council meeting last night.

The move was mostly procedural, because a provincial mask mandate takes precedence over the municipal mandate for the use of masks in public indoor places.

The municipal mandate will now expire at the same time the provincial mandate ends.

Councillor Mark Authier, who brought in the motion, said the idea was if and when the provincial government removes their mandate in the future, it doesn’t mislead and confuse local residents.
