CK Mayor Speaks Up For Local Eateries

Chatham-Kent mayor Darrin Canniff wants to see the provincial and federal governments step up to help restaurants.

Canniff has written to the Prime Minister and Premier asking for a number of things to help restaurants survive in the short-term.

The mayor recommended an immediate moratorium on restaurant evictions, the creation of a program of direct rent subsidies equivalent to the restaurant’s sales volume reduction, measures to continue throughout the recovery to allow businesses to ramp back up.

Canniff also wants banks and landlords to share in the cost of the emergency measures that restaurants have had to take on.
