A pair of young Chatham-Kent men are facing charges following a theft from a local convenience store.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a Grand Avenue West convenience store shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday after two men left without paying for several items.
Officers located two suspects a short time later and one was taken into custody without incident. The other suspect allegedly tried to run but was arrested following a brief chase with police.
During a search, officers discovered a weapon on one of the suspects. The stolen items were also recovered.
As a result, a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Chatham-Kent, are charged with possession of stolen property. The 19-year-old is additionally charged with theft under $5,000, obstructing police, escaping lawful custody, and failing to comply with a probation order.
The two men have since been released from custody with conditions and a July court date.
